Please join us for a fascinating afternoon in the company of film star and actress Jennie Linden at the award-winning Haven Hall in Shanklin, one of the most spectacular venues on the Isle of Wight.
Jennie’s film, television and stage career spanned four decades. After winning a scholarship to the Central School of Speech and Drama, she worked at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry and the Bristol Old Vic before starring in many West End Plays, including Thark with Alec McCowen, On Approval with Geraldine McEwan, My Fat Friend with Kenneth Williams and Hedda Gabler with Glenda Jackson.
Jennie’s best-known roles are in film. She starred with Glenda Jackson, Alan Bates and Oliver Reed in Ken Russell’s adaptation of D.H. Lawrence’s Women in Love (for which she was nominated for two Academy Awards) and with Peter Cushing and Roy Castle in Dr Who and the Daleks. She regularly appeared on television in series including The Persuaders, The Saint, The Avengers, The Champions, Lillie and Tales of the Unexpected. More recently she is remembered for parts in The Practice, Lovejoy, Chancer and Trainer.
Jennie will be discussing highlights of her career – and the actors and directors she worked with – in conversation with Vectis Radio presenter James Vaux , together with clips of her film and TV roles.
Haven Hall is a beautiful restored house overlooking the Channel with outstanding grounds and gardens which recently won the Wight in Bloom competition. There will be a chance to see the gardens during tea and there will also be a cash bar. The Ryde Lions will provide a fabulous afternoon tea.
